Louvre

 

The most famous museum in the world and the former residence of the royal family. The Louvre boasts a large collection of paintings and objects of art. It is also home to the most famous painting in the world, the Gioconda by Leonardo da Vinci.

 

Arc de Triomphe

The Arch of Triumph became a monument to Napoleon Bonaparte’s victories. The construction of this grand monument took a long time and was not completed until 1836, after the end of his empire. The top of the Arc de Triomphe offers one of the best views of the Eiffel Tower.

 

Notre Dame de Paris

Not your ordinary attraction – there are secret underground passages and an underground cemetery with several thousand skeletons dating back to the 18th century.

 

Montmartre

 

Montmartre, officially the city’s historic district, is one of the most vibrant areas in Paris, so it’s no surprise that the area is a favourite with tourists. It’s also a famous artist’s quarter.

 

Les Invalides

 

This is a majestic complex of buildings and a huge temple with a golden dome. It was a haven for veterans of the Napoleonic wars. There are now several museums here, as well as tombs of famous French personalities, including Napoleon Bonaparte.

 

Pantheon

 

The building was originally intended for ecclesiastical purposes, but later turned out to be a civic shrine where famous French figures are buried, among them the writer Victor Hugo and Voltaire.
